Yes, today is formally Ancelotti’s first day at Chelsea, and we’re all hoping to hear something of his plans for the club. Maybe we can even expect a signing over the next 48 hours (Zhirkov, we’re looking at you).
In the meantime, it occurs to me that bridgeviews.co.uk is a month old. Certainly, the 30 days or so that have passed were first exciting before waning a little, but plenty has happened. Chelsea sealed the FA Cup, Hiddink left and Ancelotti arrived, and since then we’ve been linked with pretty much every player under the sun.
In that time there have been posts on this blog reviewing the FA Cup final win, laughing at Spurs’ bullying epidemic, worrying about Ancelotti's fixation with the Champions League, looking back at the squad’s 08/09 performance, berating Wembley's stewards and pondering Malouda’s renaissance. Along the way I’ve had a couple of rants about UEFA, too.
For those of you new to the blog, I’ve picked the top five posts of the last month – if you haven’t seen them, have a read.
1) Abandon ‘off the shelf’ transfer policy – amidst all the transfer gossip, here was an argument for a more long-term view at the Bridge
2) Introducing the ‘guusrate’ – a tongue-in-cheek look at Hiddink’s record at Chelsea, ably assisted by bridgeviews’ bean counters
3) Should Ancelotti step out of Mourinho’s shadow – a call for Carlo to plan for evolution, not revolution
4) What Ronaldo’s transfer means for Chelsea – love him or hate him (I’m guessing the latter), this post looked at what the mammoth deal means for the Blues. With price tags of £50m being put on Pato and Aguero, you can see there have been far-reaching implications…
5) It’s English football that’s failing, not Chelsea – a post pointing out that it isn’t just Chelsea that aren’t signing ‘galaticos’, but English football as a whole. And it’s always been that way…
Any readers got any one month in feedback about how I can improve the blog, or anything you would like to see written about? Would love to hear it – post a comment!
